If you're getting married, one of the most exciting preparations is a visit to your local bridal boutique. You get to choose a dress, accessories, and other personal items to wear and use on your big day. If you're not sure what to bring to your appointment to make it a success, follow this checklist to make sure you get the most out of your visit.

1. Supportive undergarments.

When you try on dresses, you want to wear a supportive bra that will be similar to the one you wear on your wedding day. This will help you get a better idea of your the dress will fit and what looks good on your body. Wearing no bra or a sports bra can make some dresses seem unflattering when they really would look quite nice. Also, if you plan on wearing shapewear to your wedding ceremony, bring it with you to try on dresses as well.

Some women might also feel more comfortable wearing a slip or chemise of some sort to have on between dresses.

2. Just a few trusted friends.

Some women want the wedding dress shopping experience to be a social one -- it's one of the more fun parts of wedding planning. However, don't bring a whole entourage with you. It slows down the process and can confuse you on your wedding dress choice since you'll have so many contrasting opinions. Instead, bring your maid of honor, a sister, your mom, or a few bridesmaids with you. Three or four friends provide the support and insight you need. Six or seven or more causes crowding in the boutique.

3. A budget.

Before you come to find a dress, make sure you have an idea of what you can afford. If you don't have a budget before you come, you risk falling in love with a dress that will cost too much, leaving you disappointed and wasting the time of the bridal attendants who are helping you dress. When you do have a budget, only try on dresses that fit your financial plan. Make sure you include the cost of fitting and alterations as part of your budget.

4. Shoes

Finally, you might also bring the shoes you plan on wearing to the wedding or at least shoes that will be the same height as the ones you will wear at the wedding. If you plan on wearing flats, then you should try the dress with flats. If you plan on heels, bring some heels so you can see how the dress falls at the new height.
